Tonle Sap, in the local language, means Great River from Fresh Source, which is a combination of lake and river system and is one of the most famous travel spots in Cambodia. It is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and has been declared a "biosphere reserve" by UNESCO in 1997.
Fled from bustle and hustle cities, Tonle Sap is a magical heaven to get rid of daily worry. It is beyond a simple lake, it could be a sea - lake because once you get on a wooden boat, there is a sea of fresh water in front of your eyes and all you can see is the sky horizon but the shore. During the rainy season, the surface would be eight times bigger, and the depth could reach 9 times deeper. At that time, there are so many fishes that you could even catch them by a basket instead of fishing cod.
The strengths of this program
• Take a great boat ride and visit the Kampong Kluk floating village.
• Have lunch at a floating home.
• Enjoy the sunset when you leave the village.
Detailed plan
Living in a floating village will be an unforgettable experience while every daily activity will take place on water areas. There are houses which have strange design construction which is on small pillars with leafy roofs together with other facilities such as: schools, hospitals, markets, policies, etc. The Tonle Sap is, completely different world with ours, a beauty of uncertain peace.
You can enjoy lunch here at a local house with fresh and tasty seafood “direct from the sea to the table” with various kinds: shrimps, fish, octopus, etc. Coming back to the shore in the afternoon and enjoying the stunning sunset on the sea lake is a moment you never want to miss.
