Hua Hin is about 200km southwest of Bangkok. It used to be the residence of the Thai Royal Family, with many parks and historical sites. The city has a 5 km coastline with fine white sand, clear blue water. Especially there are many hills and caves.
The weather here is warm all year round, but from December to May is the dry season, which is an ideal time to swim and visit.
From Suvarnabhumi Airport, there is a high-quality bus going straight to Hua Hin. Go down to the 8th gate on the 1st floor, you will see a ticket counter, the price is 269 Bath. Buses run every one hour and a half and stop at Hua Hin bus station between Soi 98 and 96. But this bus often runs out early, you must book online via the website www.airporthuahinbus.com.
Another convenient way: go to the basement of Suvarnabhumi airport to buy a train ticket to the center of Bangkok, the ticket price is 45 baht, you get off at the last Phaya Thai station and continue to take the tram (green line) to Victory Monument station. The minibus station is at the foot of Victory Monument station, where there is a minibus to Hua Hin for 180 baht, a bus runs every 30 minutes, no worries of waiting as long as the bus at the airport. If you go from central Bangkok, take the train to Victory Monument station. Note that you should bring a small suitcase when you go by minibus because this car does not have a storage compartment, so carrying a large suitcase will be charged twice! The car runs very fast, takes about 2 and a half hours to reach Hua Hin.
The mini-bus will stop at the center of Hua Hin, at the intersection. Here you can catch a Green taxi (a kind of seaport of pickups, seats and a decent roof, very cheap) to go whenever you want. This green taxi runs from Hua Hin city to near Khao Takia Temple and also to the beach, you can eat seafood, swim here if you want.
Alternatively, you can take a bus from Sai Tai Mai bus station (bus station in South Bangkok) to Hua Hin with only 180 baht. However, getting to this bus station is not very convenient because it’s not near any train station; you have to take the bus or taxi to get here.
If you have more time, the train is also an interesting option. Tickets can be purchased directly at Hua Lamphong Station (central Bangkok), the ticket is about 200 baht, it takes 4 hours. The train stops at Hua Hin Station, an extremely popular attraction in this city.
Khao Takiab Hill
8km from the city center. You can take the bus to here. It is the highest hill in the area, which is suitable for watching the sunset and the whole city. There is also a temple with a fairly large gilded Buddha image.
Hua Hin Arts and Crafts Center
The Hua Hin Arts and Crafts Center open from 11h-18h30 in a typical old house on Naepkhehat street. It displays many works of art by artists from the past to the present. This center has free admission.
Hin Lek Fai Hill
This 162m-high hill, about 3km west of Hua Hin, is another ideal place to view the whole city.
Namtok Pa La-u Waterfall
It is 60km from Hua Hin, located in Kaeng Krachan National Park
Khao Tao Beach
13km south of the province, it is quite pristine with white sand against the mountain.
Day 1: Bangkok – Hua Hin

At first, I was going to buy a ticket going straight from the airport to Hua Hin but they only had a 18h30 departure, so our group went down to the basement to take the train to central Bangkok. The fare to enter the last station (Phaya Thai) of Airport Rail Link is 45 Bath. From here transfer one more station to Victory Monument, where there is a minibus to Hua Hin for 180 baht. The car runs very fast so at about 5 pm we arrived in the city. The car stops right near the Klai Kangwon Palace (the summer resort of the Thai Royal Family). We walked 800m to the hotel located on 56th street. Then we took a break to change a bit and then walked out the road near the sea with quite a lot of restaurants (go straight from 56 to 41 to reach Naebkehardt street along the coast where there are many restaurants). We went to a pretty crowded restaurant for dinner, had to wait about 15 minutes to have a good seat, it only cost about 400 baht for 3 of us.
In Hua Hin, there are few taxis; public transport is mainly tuk-tuk (big pickup like in Pattaya rather than a small car like Bangkok). After finishing eating, we went to the hotel by tuk-tuk with 50 baths. Before we came back, we also bought a grapefruit wreath of a lovely street vendor for 20 baht.
In the evening we enlist bathing in the pool, enjoying a relaxing time after a long trip.
Rent a motorbike in Huahin: You can rent a motorbike for 200 Baht/day, car rental points in the center, or ask at the hotel and rent it quite easily.
Day 2: City tour – Swimming
The morning at the hotel is very relaxing because there are many trees, I woke up to enjoy a quite full and delicious breakfast. After breakfast, we walked to Klai Kangwon palace where the king and the palace came to rest. The architecture here is very typical of Thai Buddhist architecture. Thai people also adore the king, so the streets here are filled with photos of him and the queen. The entrance fee to this palace is 20 bath/person.
Then we took a tuk-tuk to Hua Hin Railway Station more than 2km away. It is the most famous destination in this city, an ideal place to check-in.
At noon, we went along Soi 61 opposite the train station, there are many fast food shops. Since we had a full breakfast at the hotel, we decided to go to McDonald’s for chips and hamburgers. The average serving here is about 60-80 baht.
In the afternoon, we walk to the beach (straight Soi 61 to the beach), there are many souvenir shops with good items for you to buy as gifts. I bought a lovely wooden box at Hua Hin Post Office for 100 baht or beautiful animals made from shells for 5 baht. The beach in Hua Hin is not so beautiful, but quite clean, there are many cowboy-style photographic services.
In the evening, we return to the central area near the station, there is a quite busy Chatsila night market located on Soi 72 (about 200m from the station). We go around enjoying a variety of baked goods here for 20-40 baht.
Day 3: Cha Am – Bangkok
On the third day, we took a taxi to Cha Am (35 km away) for 400 baht, there is a very famous sheep farm which is open from 9 am to 7 pm, the ticket price is 120 baht / 1 person. Space here is very beautiful and unique, a great place to relax and take photos.
We also have lunch at the restaurant here. Stir-fried noodles or mixed fried rice are also quite cheap, only about 40 baht.
After lunch, we took a taxi to the highway (about 5km) and then took a minibus back to Bangkok for 160 baht, ending the trip to Hua Hin.
Hotels in Thailand are reasonably priced and varied, so there are many options for you. The center of Hua Hin is the Night Market area and the train station, so you should book rooms in this area.
