Ko Chang is a part of an archipelago of 52 islands. It is about 30 km long & 14 km wide. It is also a part of Mu Ko Chang National Park, covers an area of 650 square kilometers, of which 70 percent is offshore.
The main settlements on the west coast are around Sai Khao, Hat Kai Mook, Hat Kai Bae, Ban Klong Prao and the fishing village of Bang Bao on the south coast. The administrative center of the island is Ban Dan Mai on the east coast.
With an area of 210 km2, Ko Chang is the third largest island in Thailand by region, after Phuket and Ko Samui. The name Ko Chang means ‘Elephant Island’ and comes from the elephant-shape of island.
From November to May is the best time to go to Koh Chang. This time the beach will be more beautiful with golden sunshine, blue sea and not too hot. June to October is the rainy season so tourism services here are also limited, the sea weather is not favorable, so going to the island is also difficult.
The beaches
The most popular in Koh Chang are the two beaches, White Sand Beach and Lonely Beach. Both have white sand, long smooth beaches and lots of interesting water games like windsurfing, kayaking and skydiving or simply go for a massage, spa or attend yoga and meditation classes at Lonely Beach.
