Krabi is one of the southern provinces of Thailand, located on Andaman Bay and 814km from Bangkok.
Krabi is not as famous as Phuket, so it is quieter and less touristy. Moreover, it also has long and beautiful beaches, many islands with clear and clean beaches. In addition, from Krabi you can also come to beautiful islands like Phi Phi Leh and Phi Phi Don, the distance is similar to going from Phuket.
It takes 1 hour 20 minutes to get to Krabi from Bangkok airport. By car, it takes about 11 to 12 hours. It takes 2 hours to travel from Krabi to Phuket by boat. If you are passionate about sea travel, you must definitely go to both Phuket and Krabi.
By air
By air, you can choose Thai Airways, Air Asia, or Nok Air. The airport here is Krabi International Airport, from the airport you take a taxi or other means to enter the city center (the distance of 15km), the distance from the airport to Ao Nang is 40km. Price to go from Song airport to Ao Nang about 50baht/person, with the time of about 1.5 hours.
By bus
The bus to Krabi departs from the bus station in the South of Bangkok City (Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal – +66.24351199). It takes about 12 hours to reach the province. Every day there are many buses, with car classes such as VIP bus (19h, 19h30 – 24 seats), and second class (20h – 50 seats). Many tourists ask the hotel receptionist to buy tickets because the distance from the center to the bus station is quite far.
When you arrive at the bus station, you can catch a minivan to your hotel in the province center with a price of 150 baht/person. Or take a minivan to Ao Nang at the same price.
A small note when traveling on a double-decker bus in Thailand is that you should not choose a seat behind the stairs. The seat is uncomfortable because the legroom is narrow.
To rent a motorbike you need a passport or your ID card, and a scanned copy of your passport. The price of renting a small motorbike is 150 Baht, a big one is 200 Baht, you add 75 Baht of petrol cost each to go nearly 40km (all towns and Ao Nang area). If that doesn’t work, then rent a car at the hotel.
When traveling to Krabi, most people will come to Ao Nang Beach, a beautiful beach with poetic scenery. From this beach, you could buy Phi Phi island tours by speedboat, or adventure tours like climbing in Rei Leh or scuba diving. In addition, you can also rent a motorbike to ride around, explore the beaches here.
Tiger Cave Temple
If you like climbing, you should go to the Tiger Cave Temple. The interesting thing is from the top of the mountain, you could admire the view of Krabi. This is also the most famous temple in southern Thailand, up to the top of the mountain you can also see a large Buddha statue, and the Tiger footprint, the origin of the name of the temple. You can also go long tail on the Krabi River, as well as many other places starting from the pier from this river.
Nopparat Thara Beach
A picturesque beach on the western tip of Ao Nang, planned as a national park. At low tide, you can walk to some of the nearby craggy limestone islands. However, if you go in the Jellyfish season, you should ask the locals before walking the sea to the islands. You can reach Nopparat Thara beach by motorbike, you just park your bike and it won’t get lost.
Railay Beach
Railay Beach is a beautiful beach near Ao Nang, where you can only get there by Longtail boat. It is, in fact, a part of the mainland, but is bisected by limestone hills. The beach is cleaner than Ao Nang beach and Nopparat Thara, besides you can visit some caves. There are also hotels and beach resorts. To go to Railay you have to take the Longtail boat for 800 baht for the whole boat, the boat owner will wait for enough new passengers to run because they will collect that 800 baths. If you go during the low season, you will have to wait long or pay the full amount on to go immediately.
Su-san Hoi Beach
Su-san Hoi Beach, also known as fossil beach, is about 17km from Krabi town. In the past, this area was a freshwater lagoon, inhabited by many species of snails and shellfish. Over time, the lagoon disappears, all snails and shells die to form a layer of fossils up to 40cm thick. With the geographic displacement, the fossil layer broke into huge blocks lying on the coast of the Laem Pho region forming strange blocks. This is an interesting destination for archaeologists, the cost of visiting for foreign visitors is 200 bath.
There are 2 hotel areas you will stay in, Krabi Town and Ao Nang beach (near the beach).
